Posted at July 4, 2006, 2:50 am: This is my first post here, and I need a lot of help. I've spent the past 3 years on DeviantArt, virtually getting no where. I have progressed, but not near as fast as I'd liked. I'm so fet up with the one liner comments and the consistant praise, when I obviously know something's wrong with my work. I'm sick of the colorful animals and big-eyed anime people, and the fact that the great artists are far inbetween. Basically, I need a serious ass-whoopin'. My biggest faults would definately have to be anatomy, perspective, and definitive lighting sources. I have drawn anatomy from life before (probably not as much as I should), but when I try to apply what I've learned, it comes out sort of wonky and off-balance. Also, when it comes to lighting, I often start out with a lightsource, and eventually I don't follow through with it, and I just end up shading what I think needs shading, which is often just shading the contures of shapes in no particular pattern. Perspective, I have serious issues with, often attempting it and not following through. I tend to stick with flatter views that are within my comfort zone, and I also tend to cartoonize things for the same reason. Here is something I really like, and have finished, but I'd like to attempt it again with some good critiques to fall on. It's nice, but it's too cartoony and I would really like to make it more tangible and realistic. I like the general idea of this, it's pretty and I think it has more potential than what I gave it. I really like how the waterfall tumbles over the rocks, the girl's clothing, and the combination of media (Primsacolor pencil, acrylic, and gold gloss). I like the combinations of color, too. I don't like the flatness of it, especially the bushes, which are really flat and have almost no definition. That was due to my own laziness more than my lack of knowledge in handling them. Of course there is no real light source as I mentioned before. I'll just let you guys pick it apart. I LOVE paint-overs and red lines, so if you have time, I'd greatly appreciate it. Right now, I'm more concerned about her anatomy because I want to get a basic sketch of her down before I lay everything else out again.
