So, latley I've been pondering the philosophies of Jean Rousseau. So, ITT, we discuss if he is right that people are naturally good, and that they are made evil by institution and society.

I have to disagree with him. I mean, for as much as he is for the "natural man," I have to think that the evils of society are a natural byproduct of man's gradual socialization. My case study, since there are no "natural men" really left, focuses on Jane Goodall's Chimpanzees:

Goodall observed Chimps for years, and for years she saw them as an innocent bunch, their primitiveness keeping them Angelic ( and so far Rosseau seems correct). As the Chimps further trusted her, however, she soon found out that Chimps in fact wage war on other tribes of Chimps, and that even "natural" and primitive beings do in fact face evils without being faced with the evils of institution such as education and research.
