Posted at December 25, 2016, 7:50 am: FatPete's Bands You May or May Not Listen to But Should Listen to More Anyway #2; Choke Members: Clay Shea - Bass/Vocals Jack Jaggard- Guitar/Vocals Shawn Moncrieff - Vocals/Guitar Stefan Levasseur - Drums From: Some place in Canada Since: 1994 Plays: A fusion of good ol'-fashioned skate punk, technical melodicore, emo, pop and jazz. (Really hard to compare to other bands - started out just playing riffed-up skate, but has evolved into having their own sound. Kinda like a less metal Strung Out at times, like a slower Belvere at other times. But very much their own.) Discography: "Slow Fade OR: How I Learned To Question Infinity" (Smallman Records, 2005) "There's a Story To This Moral" (Smallman Records, 2002) "Foreword" (Smallman Records, 1999) "Needless To Say" (Smallman Records, 1998) "Give'er" (Smallman Records, 1996) "Lotion" (Independent, 1995) Label: Smallman Records Links: chokeonline.com (official website) Biography: FatPete thinks: I love to see a band who strives to always progress within their genre, and within themselves. Choke really does this, pushing the envelope further all the time. The guitarwork is always top-noth on their stuff, and the song structures are awesome. Although I know high-pitched vocals are frowned upon generally, and all the singers in Choke seem to have this , even that doesn't bring it down for me. They may get a bit on the soft side, especially in latter days, but it's part of the progress. Although not strictly "punk", they're an awe-inspiring band worth checking out. Recommended tracks: (from each album I have) "Wasted" ( from "Needless to Say") "Filter" (from "Foreword") "Forget to Learn" (from "There's a Story to this Moral") "This Forced Hour" (from "Slow Fade") Getting some: Either get in touch with me, or visit their official homepage.
