Anyways, just to be as specific as possible: I have a 6-piece PDP CX Series drum-set. 22 bass, 14 snare, 10, 12, 14, and 16 toms. My bass sounds fine, I'm not worried about that, and I plan to replace my snare and that doesn't sound too bad anyways. But my toms...sound like hell no matter what I do. I've messed around with 'em for hours, always crappy sounding. I'm figuring it has a lot to do with my heads. They are currently clear G2's over the stocks. I don't think I like Evans too much outside of their bass-heads, so I plan on going Remo. I think I've decided on clear amb's for reso's, but I'm wondering...how much of a difference will I notice between the current stock heads and amb's, even with the same batters? Also, batter-wise, I have 4 choices: clear emp, coated emp, clear amb, coated amb. I really don't know what to choose. I'm sure someday I'll test out all 4, but I know that now and in the near future I can't afford to buy all those heads, you know? As for the sound I want: boomy/open yet not ring...warm...standard rock sound, really. I don't have any tuning questions, I figure if I get the right heads I'll eventually figure out how to tune them right. So basically, all I'm asking out of this really long thread is: 1. Difference between stock and amb resos? 2. Difference between the 4 batter heads I listed? Thanks to anyone who helps. It is very much appreciated.
