I have played guitar for 2 years, and i have just joined a band. I am looking at a guitar upgrade, and want some opinions on what to look for. I would say that my band is probably hard rock, or maybe alt metal. My influences include Alice in Chains, The Mars Volta, Opeth, A Perfect Circle, and Tool. I want a guitar that can play thick distortion, but also cleaner, less distorted solos. I am looking at these two for now:

I am open for any suggestions, and would be greatful for any info on pickups, guitars, or good brands.
