I decided that I was tired of fret buzz and having to "break in" new roundwounds by playing with blistered fingers for a while, when the result would always be a smoother string anyway. Why couldn't I just get strings that were already smooth?

So I scrounged up thirty bucks for a set of Rotosound flatwound strings (45-105 in case you wanted to know), and I really like them. Very comfortable and a cool sound as well. I hear they're more for jazz players but I was influenced more by the string choice of Steve Harris, who is probably my favorite bassist.

I asked the guy at Guitar Center what the advantages/disadvantages were of flatwounds over roundwounds but couldn't get a really good set of answers out of him. They didn't even have a bass in stock with flats already on it, out of the dozens that were there! Luckily I made the right choice anyway, and just did what I felt comfortable with.

But can anyone here tell me more about these wonderful strings? Your experiences? Stuff like that?
