Hey MX,

As some of you may know I am starting to build a bass starting this weekend.

Now I have had very little experience with different tools but I have worked with wood a fair bit (Making Desks and Chairs for my mother) and have adjusted the contours and horns on my jazz bass copy after stripping the paint off of it but how the **** do I sand in small places? I have done it all by hand in the past and it just takes to long and its very hard to be precise by on using your hand and some sand paper.

What tool could I use for this job? I was thinking of something along the lines of an attachment to a powered drill and filing it that way? But I am frantically searching google but getting nothing!

Also to get the thickness of the wood correct and very even, what tools then? A planer?
I am also getting my Grandad to help me with this as he has been wood working alot since he was young but they used different tools back when building a chair took 3 years!!!

Thank you all so much for your help.

Thank **** for JP.

One word;

Cheers JP.

Yeah, a dremel is a very handy tool.

Actually, the best tool to use for this is called a "Spoke Shave.

Dremels are great for small curves also.

Hmmm, I found it hard to get a really flowing smooth finish even with ...

I use a spoke shave also.

Yeah, dremels a dream for tight spaces Do you make many customs?

Hopefully I will be soon.

A file.

Yeah you cannot beat slaving away with sand paper and your hand.

For building a whole bass? I use a router, bandsaw, jigsaw, table saw,...

Explain how you use the router in your work? any tips? what about jigs...

bump

Well, I use templates and a guide peice on the router.
