So, as always, I am bass hunting. My ideal tone is that of a Precision bass, but I sometimes need the treblyness of a J in songs (mainly, some jazz stuff for a "cover" band, if you'd like to call us that). Theoretically, P/J would be the ideal bass, but I find that a soloed P pickup on a P/J just can't the bottom a normal P can. I've tried quite a few P/Js (Fender, Yamaha, Ibanez, G&L, Warwick, etc.) and I really can't find ANY P/J with the "right" sound of a P.
So, I could:
Get a standard Precision, and have MY ideal tone, and still use it for the other band, even if it isn't the best sound for some songs.
or
Get a P/J, and have a good sound for both of the tones I'd need, but nothing out of the ordinary in either case.
Bleh, I made a mess of a simple issue, due to lack of articulation, but hopefully it makes some sense .
