i've been following this turkish cymbal thread lately, and it got me wondering what is the big deal with hand hammering? i notice that several cymbal companies, especially those turkish companies, advertise the fact that their cymbals are hand hammered. i've also noticed that some other cymbals appear to be machine hammered, possibly the zildjian A series (i could be wrong about that). so my question is, why would you want a hand hammered cymbal instead of machine hammered cymbal? it seems like it wouldn't make a difference who or what hammers a cymbal, but apparently it does. is it the hand hammering that gives cymbals a "dark" sound?
