Posted at June 18, 2006, 6:00 pm: Hi folks, first time posting to this forum with my work. This preliminary work for the first concept subject I'm working on for college (just foundation stuff). It's your run of the mill near-future jetbike. I decided to base this concept on US Coast Guard Search & Rescue Helicopters of today. The idea behind this was to use a more laid back position instead of the "crotch rocket" posture. The pilot would be more comfortable during long search missions, in addition to being better seated for high-G manuevers. It's propulsion system is a cinematic style vector thrust jet, 2 in back, one slightly forward of the pilot. This would give the vehicle many T.O.L. options - ship deck, rooftop, atoll in the middle of the ocean, etc. The composition will be brought together by the reflection of the ocean horizon in the windshield and the foreground pilot's eyewear - as if this patrol was just dispatched. At this stage I'm still developing the jetbike design. I figured now would be the best time to get some input from people that actually critique instead of my clueless classmates replying with "WOW that's so COOL!". I plan to use dry media such as colored pencil, pastel and charcoal/graphite. I may even port the color piece to Painter for further work if it turns out OK. the thumbnail I decided to go with placing the subject in a scene - leaving for a mission, just the bike. Photoreference for color and insignia. A quick reality check to make sure the pilot position was somewhat realistic Put the insignia and some techie stuff on the bike, and thought about landing gear Working on perspective, not the one I'll go with for the final. This is the big layout sketch. I was thinking of "popping" the foreground bike out of frame and into the border frame for visual impact. Thanks for looking. All critique welcome. I'm glad I found this place, I love it. Cheers.
