Posted at February 26, 2016, 7:07 pm: Saturday morning, Biggie and Dirty Silk run late. Not that big a deal, we have plenty of time and dont actually want to show up to the show early anyway. Biggie didnt book the hotel the night before like he was going to, so he and Dirty Silk go into my room to book it. I eat my breakfast in the other room while watching cartoons. I get finished and come in, and they say they booked it. We leave. I drive the first four hours, they split the last 2 or so. We actually get there before anyone plays, which...is a bad thing. The first three bands all sounded pretty much the same, they all had the same theme...blast beats, poor screaming. God Forbid was probably the best though, they werent completely terrible. I liked their drummer, and the vocalist was very nice and polite to the crowd. When Meshuggah hit that first low F it was like an explosion though. I just cant really describe how heavy their performance was. Ive heard these songs for years but never like that. They opened with The Mouth Licking What You've Bled, which has always been my favorite track. Jen's voice sounded much better than Ive heard live, before. He goes more gutteral than on record (To save his voice) but he busted out some of his more high, midrange screams that just cut. I really appreciated them playing In Death - Is Life and In Death - Is Death, mainly because of the complexity of the parts...there was this big uproar when Catch 33 came out because they didnt use real drums, Tomas didnt play the parts. But they did it 100% live last night and it was spot on...some of the most random things ever, very much like their 'I' release. I briefly met Tomas and Jens, which was pretty cool. After the show...we are driving to the hotel...when Dirty Silk asks Biggie if he remembered the name of the hotel. He doesnt. Neither does Dirty Silk. Sooooo we drive to all of the hotels asking if they had a reservation for us. None of them did. I tell Biggie to call someone to check his email and see if they sent a confirmation email. I get out of the car to walk for a bit to cool off (Im pretty angry with both of them at this point). I get back into the car and Biggie's on the phone with his girlfriend. I ask Dirty what Biggie is doing and he says 'I dunno, she called him.' They sit there talking about the most trivial **** (Hey, what are you up to? Bla bla bla) apparently oblivious to the fact that WE DONT HAVE A HOTEL TO STAY AT. I get out and walk over to a teller in an 'Econo Lodge' and ask her to please get me the phone number for Hotels.com . Dirty Silk calls them to see if they have any record of his itinerary (Considering he and Biggie used his credit card to book the hotel). Noooothing. So we drive all about Springfield Virginia looking for a vacant hotel. Nothing. Everyone is full. I tell them to pull in to get something to eat so I can think straight and get a plan for what Im going to do...which is pretty obvious, drive back to ****ing South Carolina. I get some caffiene in me and at about 2 in the morning or so we leave to drive home. I drive because in no way did I trust either of them to get us home alive, and they are bitching about being sleepy. Now, this is Biggie's car. I set it on cruise control for 85mph...after about 3 hours on I-95 going this speed I get pulled over by two cops. : / I get 'reckless driving' because apparently the speed limit in viginia is 65, even though I was the only car on the road and its oh I dont know 5 IN THE ****ING MORNING. This is my first ticket too... So I spend 5 hours driving listening to nothing but Biggie and Dirty snoring and ****ty music off of Biggie's Ipod. Im a machine. But Im just sitting there all quiet and angry...I didnt bitch at either of them because it would have solved nothing. I just kind of brooded for those hours. At about 7:20 I pull over and get Dirty to drive the rest of the way home. When I get home around 10 I walk up, brush my teeth, and go to sleep. I set my alarm for 5 in the afternoon so I can still sleep tonight... Getting on the internet, the last form that was up clearly asks for them to confirm the credit card's verification number, which they didnt, hence the reservation was never made. Not only did they forget the Hotel's name, they didnt book the hotel to begin with. All of this was completely worth it to see Meshuggah, they are my third favorite band...I cant really say I love them more than Rage Against the Machine or Radiohead because thats what I grew up on and they were there first by far, but I still hold them very close to me.
