Hi all. It seems like drummers have heaps of fun and IMO they sound cool, I was thinking of maybe learning them in a few years after I get ok at some other instruments I'm learning (and if or after I move out, my parents would never let drums in this house) - as the thing is, I always wanted to learn either drums or guitar but never (yet) got around to them for various reasons - cost, difficulty of playing them etc. So I was wondering if you would recommend drums, or if you regret learning drums (and maybe, only still play because you didn't want all the investment in your kit to go to waste). Any reasons for or against learning drums?
Also, are drums for everyone (ie, anyone can learn to be an ok drummer with practice), or does it require a lot of natural talent and so some people will never be any good at it? I am not very coordinated, can't play any sport, can hardly play music for that matter. When I used to play the piano, I could never 'think' of my right and left hand independently. When I've come across drum kits in the past, and been allowed to 'have a go', I've tried playing the only beat I know how to play on them - eighth notes on the cymbals, alternating snare / bass in quarter notes. I found that when I would bring in the snare and bass first, as soon as I try to hit the cymbals, I stop the snare and bass. When I started with cymabls, I could sometimes go for a few bars without mucking up. Anyway that's my hopeless coordination for ya. Any chance I'll ever be able to play drums?
