I've heard many times that photographs are bad to use for reference. Why?
I know lenses can slightly distort perspective (barrel distortion, is it called?) and that cameras can focus in ways our eyes can't. But why do these small differences almost rule out photos as drawing/painting reference? What flaws and disadvantages are there that I don't know about? What are the advantages of reference from life?
