I have a Nikon Coolpix L4 digital camera, and I am trying to learn how to focus on foreground / background objects. I read the manual which mentions holding the shutter half-way to focus on specific objects, but I notice no difference between using focus versus not using focus in the same scene. For example, here is a tree I tried to focus on: JPG - 1024 x 640, 256 K
What I wanted to do was have only the tree in focus with the rest of the image blurred. I've seen this done before, but I can't seem to do it myself. Is this not possible with a digital camera?
