Posted at October 11, 2006, 10:35 am: Hi Everyone, This forum is bursting with master 2d artists and I want to learn. I want some advice though: everyone has unique perspectives on where to begin, line drawings, human anatomy, still life etc. Is it a case of just picking whatever suits what I want to achieve and going full steam ahead ? or is there some usual path to follow ? I dont want to be the worlds best concept artist, but i want to get better at my 2d especially to express ideas etc. Im already at a level where I feel im just past a beginner level of skill in 3D and ultimately I am heading in the direction of being a 3D artist, however i feel it is absolutely impossible for me to reach a master level of skill in 3D without a solid understanding of 2D. I currently work in the games industry and have done so for about 3 years now all towards the character / creature and environment modelling and almost zero 2D. I really think its time to change that now - so can you guys help me out with some advice as to what you did when you started ? Anyone out there in my situation as well ? It would be awesome to know im not the only one. If there was a rating of 1 to 10 in 3D ( 1 being absolute beginner and 10 being master ) i would classify my 3d overall around the 3 - 5 mark. If there was a rating of 1 to 10 in 2D i would classify my score as 1 definately. I feel pretty sad about i feel like a body builder that is only working on his arms and not training his legs at all - totally unbalanced. So i plan on starting a sketchbook here and hope that I can see some improovement over the next year.
