Hi, I'm new here, I couldn't wait to post something. This thread looks amazing. I really only discovered this place last week. Couldnt believe i had mssed it for so long.
I was hoping for some critique of some paintings i did today.I've dabbled in digital art quite a bit but never got too far, always gave up. Turns out all I needed was a simple tutorial which taught me such a basic thing. After watching some Gnomon DVD's (Shading planar & geometric forms) I sat down and started rendering out some shapes. The shapes below i was able to achieve after a few tries. Then I thought what the hell, I'll paint a character. I started with the silhouette as you see next to him. I just built him up of simple shapes: cones, cylinders and spheres.
Some things i need advice on is the cube in the shape renderings. I wasn't sure if the lighting on the ball on the shadow side is correct. Also the eye of the monster sort of fades into the shadow of the body, wasnt sure if this was correct either.
