Gosh, I love those videos from Gnomon Analog series. One of them is an excellent 2.5 hrs long lesson on drawing male head by Bob Kato. It is a landmark, and it is important not only for comprehending the specific topic it covers (i.e., the male head), but also drawing in general. Even though everybody repeats the basic set of rules, e.g., sketching loosely in the beginning, then tracing those lines toward the finished piece, I found it in this instructional video where this way of drawing really makes sense, because Kato literally throws almost random pencil strokes and then turns them into a great piece of art in terms of perspective, linework and character. Drawing like this is really fun and Kato always seems to stress the "less is more" thinking. I was so pleased with this video that I copied some Kato's drawings as he went on creating them.
