Ok, its been a while since I have posted a 3d piece so I felt I should take the time and post this huge dump on the lasted sculpt I finished. This is a character I created and painted in photoshop. I documented the process (not as well as I should) of the sculpting process too.

This is the concept illustration that will be my guidelines for the sculpt

Sorry I didnt take photos of the preliminary processes, but it can be explained. For the armature, I used aluminum scultptors wire and a 4" x 4" wood base. I drilled holes in the base slightly smaller than the gadge of the wire so it wouldnt come detached and break into a million pieces. To connect the joints of the armature, I used thinner gadged aluminum wire and wrapped it around the thicker wire so there is still some flexibility. I then wrapped aluminum foil around the torso area (the thickest part of the sculpt) so I wouldn't waist too much sculpey.

As for the sculpey, I used the regular flesh colored super sculpey and mixed it with the sculpey III gray color to create a midtone so it is easier to see the detail and inconsistencies.

Ok, I apply the sculpey in small pieces to flesh out the basic anatomy. I smooth it all in with a plastic tool with "teeth". The teeth make small lines in the sculpey that you can later smooth out with rubbing alcohol or turpenoid. You can also see that I chose a slightly more natural pose in the armature than the stiff drawing. I left the arms off so I can get to his sides without bumping into the arms.

From here I start building up the clothing and armor like a doll. I also heat gun it in stages, there is about three, the under clothing, mid clothing, and upper clothing, its kinda wierd but it works for me. By the way if any of you are familiar with "Kenji" on these forums, thats him in the background. The tools I use are very similar to Smellybug's, he is god. You can probably see some of the tools on my messy desk around the sculpt.

I Kind of start from the mid section of the figure and work my way down, for some reason it is easier. I also try and get the mass geometry all straight before going on to the fine detail and texture. For the armor and stuff I basically make it separately then stick it on and blend it in.

It is still rough at this stage, and I haven't yet commited to firing the first stage yet, I finish adding on all the pieces for the first stage, then focus on smoothing everything out.

On this shingaurd, I created a stamp pattern using a button with a cool texture on it, this way it saves me a hell of a lot of time noodling it by hand.

After I get this area polished to where I am satisfied, I fire it before I change my mind. In stage two, I start to model the arms and the bags and pouches around the torso.

Stage three is basically just concentrating on the head antennas. I was going to add the oxygen tubing to an oxygen tank on his back, but I wasn't happy with it in the 3d form. I will eventually paint it, hopefully soon, but I want to bust out a couple of these before the semester is up. This one took me two weeks.
