Hi. Newbie to Painter. Using Painter Essentials 3 and having some problems working in layers the way I would in Photoshop. When I create a new layer, is there a way to make it transparent (as with blending options: multiply in Photoshop)?

Also, when I start drawing/painting on the new layer, what ever tool I was using now has a strange, neon like bluish tint and a weird texture, instead of the gray/black pencil that shows up on the original layer.

The I can't figure out what's going on. The Brush Category and variant are the same, but the brush stroke is completely different. How can I work in subsequent layers wit the same tool without it getting strange on me. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
