Hello. I've been lurking on these boards for about 3 months now and have learned a lot about lifting from reading other peoples' journals so I decided I would go ahead and do one of my own for the 5X5 I am about to start.

A little background on myself... I started working out again in May after a 1 yr layoff during which I put on about 40 lbs and got into pretty bad shape. I used to almost exclusively do running and calisthenics so that's what I started doing to get myself back in shape. About 6 weeks into my program, I decided to gradually add a weight training routine. Basically, this was a 5-day split that started out with light weights & high reps (10-12) for the first few weeks and progressed to using heavier weights & medium reps (8-10). The program worked well for it's intended purpose. I cut from 210 down to 180 and aside from not being able to lift very heavy I'm in decent overall shape.

Last week was my 15th straight week of working out and I figured I'd take this week easy and use it to change my program to something centered on heavy lifting instead of cardio and calisthenics. After reading this board, I've decided to start the 5X5 next week and use this week to recover from my old program and prepare for the new one.
