I've just found a guy on Deviant Art who says he paints -- but all he is doing is painting straight over a photo manipulation that suits his composition. He isn't using them for references, it's a straight trace over.

Does this count as painting?

I don't know, to me, it seems like cheating in a HUGE way.

My stuff would look AMAZING if I just traced right over stuff -- but how the heck will you EVER learn to really draw from your imagination if you just trace all the time? Do people even care? He sells his work -- and calls it paintings.

I dunno, but that bugs me. *shrug*

What do you all think?
