Hi folks,

Ever since eBay appeared, I have been _fascinated_ by the concept of becoming a seller. I've never done it, though.

Why?

Well, I think it's several reasons, probably many of them unfounded. But since I don't know anyone who does this type of work, I have not been able to ask anyone. What follows are my impressions:

1. You need a unique product. Otherwise you're competing with hundreds of others who have the same product all cheaper than you.

2. All of the items I have interest in -- electronics, computers, etc. -- are all low sellers and if you don't have interest in your product, you can't sell it.

3. The process of _selling_ on sites like eBay is difficult, what with HTML markup for sales pages, taking photos, etc. When you have a lot to sell it can take a very long time just to get things up and running.

4. Retail is a dark art. It's very hard to learn.

But I keep coming back to it. I want to learn. And each time I come back to it, I want to try and I get nervous about it and think there's just no room for yet another seller on eBay or somewhere.

Am I completely misinformed about auctioning?
