Dang, I haven't posted any art on here for months. Sorry for that.
In december, I got hired by an independant startup company from Florida, to create the conceptart for their upcoming videogame. I hung out with and worked for them for a couple of weeks. In 24 days, I created about 70 charactes, designed the logos for their company, game and designed their new webpage. These guys were so nice to let me post some of my favorite drawings and concepts that I made for the game. But now for some big chunk of art:
The Kogna Jogini
This is possibly my favorite concept for the game. They wanted me to create a design for a personification of death.
I spent some thinking on the whole thing before I put down the first stroke. I definatly wanted to get away from the wornout Reaper concept that has been overused as a symbol for death for ages now.
The whole form of this being should resemble the tree of life and death from the garden of Eden. I wanted the appendices to look more like branches and roots, then arms and legs. I tried to incorporate things like lust, sexuality, sensuality, life, birth, death and entropy. When you look close the left arms resemble the classical form of the DNA-doublehelix in form and shape.
Some time earlier I stumbled across the Kufi-symbol for ALLAH, while reading a National Geographic. The symbol excited me so much, that I placed it as a tattoo on the swollen womb of the Kogna Jogini, symbolizing that creation and life resides in the body of death. The gaping maw on top of the concepts illustrates the void between life and death, that dead souls pass through to feed the god, who in return creates life from anew. Well, yeah, that's it I think.
8 Characters within the game can bring the deathgod Kogna Jogini into the physical plane. Every one of these characters is an aspect of death, like heart, soul, body, eyes, hands, feet etc. In conjunction, the deathgod is released. I took the Kufi-symbol again, to abstract the patterns for the costumes and clothes from there, trying to create a unique look for these characters.
