Posted at January 18, 2006, 11:25 am: Is eBay having a problem keeping vendors because of their fee increases last year or is it just my imagination? I recently reviewed the listings in my category "Lace Curtains" and have seen a large reduction in listing numbers. There used to be approx 800 listings weekly. Now it is down to 500 (I guess that is good for me) and the most interesting part is that a large percentage of these are now from outside the U.S. By actual count the other day there were 112 of the 500+ listings that were from the UK, Australia and Canada. This never happened before. Could this be because they are losing vendors and need to fill up their listings? Maybe they will not be so anxious to increase fees this year. One can hope. Actually, if they do I am going to reconsider whether or not they are profitable for me anymore. I have close to a keystone markup (I pick up the shipping charges to my office from my supplier). Even so by the time I list on eBay weekly, pay their commissions on listed and store items (the majority of my sales are store items) plus their fee for Paypal they are making at least as much if not more than I do. That is not the Business Plan that I had in mind, especially when you contrast it with the profits built in to my web site using the same pricing structure. I guess the only decision I have left, if they increase their fees, is whether the effort of uploading from their Bulk Lister every day and the labor involved in shipping and bookkeeping is worth the reduced profits I receive. I would like to receive comments from others in their area of marketing to see if they also noticed a decrease in listings. Thanks for listening.
