Posted at November 3, 2005, 11:10 pm: I discovered that an eBay competitor was using the forbidden "white on white" method to list a multitude of designer names (as well as other information not pertinient to any particular sale of his) so that their ads would show up in a multitude of eBay searches not specifically related to the particular item they were selling. I reported the seller to eBay a month ago, using eBay's search manipulation "complaint form," which did not even allow enough room to list all of the designers in the "white on white" passage (eBay should have gotten the gist of the infraction from what was there, however). Nothing was ever done - no changes made - the competitor is still including the passage in his ads, and selling his wares right and left - and no wonder. I've written eBay back, using the "general" "ask us" form so that I could include everything in the "white on white" passage. I have also saved my original email to eBay as well as their response. All I want is a level playing field. This competitor is getting the equivalent of thousands of dollars in free advertising from eBay as long as they allow him to persist with this. I don't feel that I should have to pay money to try to compete with him, because unless I do exactly what he is doing, I will be at a disadvantage, no matter how much I pay eBay for extra exposure. Does eBay just ignore a complaint such as mine, even though it is so easily verified? They obviously ignored it the first time. I'm not one to turn people in to eBay for any little infraction that I see. I see them all the time; this is the first and only time I have ever contacted eBay about something like this. But, this infraction is egregious - so absolutely over the top that it is almost unbelieveable. I searched the Auctionbytes forums for information and could find nothing, so I had no choice but to start a thread. Has anyone else had this kind of experience? What did eBay do? What did you do? I would appreciate any information.
