Stats:

I'm 5'8" at 180 lbs. Don't really know what else to put here, but I guess that should give you an idea...


Today I started the Rippetoe Starting Strength workout. I figured this would be the best place for me to start. Over the past couple of weeks I've been going to the gym to lift weights but it hasn't been any kind of program. Just a standard "body split" (I think would be the right term?). Anyway, after doing some research I came across this program and it seems to me like it would fit me perfectly.

I'm not wanting to eat the 3000+ calories a day that this program states. I have plenty of fat to make up for the calories, or so I believe. We'll see how the first couple weeks go by with my current diet; if I see no results I'll change my diet to what is suggested.

I'm going on a Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday routine because I work weekend shift. This way it allows me to workout on mostly days that I don't work.

Workout A

Squat 3x5x135 - This felt pretty good, I know I will be able to go up quite a bit. I was mainly just working on getting the form down today as I have't squatted free weights in a while. Last couple of times I've been doing hack squat.

Bench 3x5x115 - I was suprised at how easy this was.

Deadlift - 3x5x135 - I really don't know how well this went. I think I would be much better doing this with a trap bar. I haven't seen anywhere saying whether or not that would be ok... Anyone know?

Dip 2x8xBW-65 - I really need to work my tricpes. I know many people do this at body weight alone. Hell, I'd be lucky to work up to that.
