Posted at May 29, 2014, 9:38 pm: Hello all. Ive been lifting for just under a year now. Like many beginners, I fell victim to the upper body "trap". Never worked anything under my back. Probably the best thing that happened to me trainign wise, was finding this site. I learned a lot from searching the threads, and one thing I learned was I need a new program. Im going to give starting strength A try and see how it goes. Im 5'11 and 160 pounds. When I first started, I was thin. Real thin. I weighed in at 125 pounds. If you can imagine how skinny that is for someone my height. I gained quite a bit on my old routine, but mainly upperbody. Time to even it out, and take it one step further. Im not what you would call, physically gifted. The amount I weight I press isnt anything special. But to me progress is all that matters. I am going to be eating everything in sight. For now, I don't have the will or desire to stay clean. Ill lose the fat I gain later, if I so choose. For now its just gaining some decent strength. I work out at home. At my disposal is a squat rack with a bench that moves in and out for ease. I also own the Powertec Workbench Leverage System. For now, I will stick to free weights, with the occasional extra accessory excercise on the machine. Im just coming off a back injury. Im gonna be starting my squats, deadlifts and bent over rows real low. Lower then they were before the injury and try to work my way back up. The last thing I want is to have to sit out another 3 weeks. I learned my lesson. And I suffered. The routine will be 1) Squat 3 x 5 Deadlift 1 x 5 Bench Press 3 x 5 2) Squat 3 x 5 Bent Over Row 3 x 5 Seated Military Press 3 x 5 (my roof is too low to do standing. cant help that) At the end of every cycle If its day 1, ill throw in a possible tricep pushdown or Skullcrusher with EZ curl bar If its day 2, EZ bar curl and possibly a seated row. Ive noticed seated rows after a bent over row leave me sore as hell. Any comments of whether this sounds good would be appreciated. Tomorrow is my "prescription" and free back massage.
