it seems every few days on here there is somebody complaining about how their elbows hurt, or they pop, or something along those lines. there is one thing ive noticed about all of these people. nearly all of them do skullcrushers. there is a reason why skull crushers are refered to as elbow ****ers, because thats exactly what skull crushers do. they **** your elbows up. when you take a look at the technique of a skullcrusher it puts your elbow in an very bad position. because the upperarm does not move at all and the elbow remains fixed in one place nearly all the pressure falls on the elbow. this will not do for those of us who still want to be lifting pain free(as possible) in the next 5 years. this is also why i am such an advocate of doing lying tricep extensions instead of elbow crushers. ive said this before and ill say it again... skull crushers are nothing more than piss poor tricep extensions.

here is a lying tricep extension

here is a skullcrusher

notice how on a lying tricep extension the upper arm moves back therefore releasing pressure off of the elbow, and putting it onto the lats. doing them this way is not only much, much safer, but you can also lift more weight this way and have a greater ROM, also making them more effective. there should be no debate between which of these two excercises should be used. lying tricep extensions are clearly much more effective and much safer than skull crushers.

Never been a fan of skullcrushers.

I dont even bother reading all the posts in threads anymore.

The pressure the people are feeling is at the joint and the tendons.
