As I'm moving up higher and higher in my squat, I'm realizing my core needs more strength. I'm on rippetoe's program so my lifts are based on squats and also consist of deadlifts, bench press, overhead press, and power cleans.

I noticed on my squat that sometimes I lean forward a bit much (I can feel the weight shifting from my heels closer to my toes). When I actively force myself to stay on my heels (thereby keeping the weight somewhere in the midd), I get this feeling (not pain or discomfort, just an observance) that my core is being used a lot more. Rippetoe recommends doing weighted roman chair situps, but I read full ROM situps are bad for your back.

Can someone recommend me an ab excersize I can do to increase core strength the front of my body? (I think I'm developing my lower back nicely from the deadlifts already). I'd prefer to do it Rippetoe style, i.e. high weight, a few warmup sets, and then 5x3 work sets. I would then integrate this into my A or B workout, so I'd be doing it once or twice a week depending on the week.
