I am posting an excerpt from another related thread to start this thread in motion. Thought it would rouse some conversation regarding the subject of starting up sites that want to compete with eBay.

Everyone complains about not being able to compete with eBay in the new auction model arena. eBay is just a huge newspaper with interactive buying & selling tools intermixed. Look around your town. How many free-classifieds newspapers are there in your town? One....maybe two in very large cities? Why aren't there dozens of them if it's so easy to make money selling classified ads?

Because............the market won't bear any more of the 'same thing'. Again, supply & demand. Folks wanting to start a 'new eBay' will have to rethink their concept. There is always room for a 'new concept' if you do your homework. Otherwise, there would only be one soft drink maker, one automobile manufacturer, one airline, etc. You just have to find out what the 'market' will bear and deliver the product. And.......absorb all the knowledge you can on marketing!!!

There are hundreds of small niche news and special interest papers in every area of the country, many of which make a good income. There are also dozens of small internet sales sites making good money. Again, find the niche and fill it.
